What's it like?

Barcaldine's weather ranges between -0.2°C in winter, to 45°C in summer, with an average annual rainfall 450mm. The town has a population of approximately 1,800 and is situated 600kms west of Rockhampton and 1,200kms from Brisbane.

The landscape varies on each side of town. The southern and eastern approaches are timbered and sandy, and are known as the desert country. The northern and western sides of town are the downs, with black, fertile soil. The streets have been named after trees - this adds to the town's "Garden City of the West" title.
