Cloncurry is known as the friendly heart of the North West. Cloncurry has a significant history, beginning in 1861 when Burke and Wills passed through the area on their way to the Gulf. Cloncurry is also known for its role in the beginnings of QANTAS and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The first QANTAS flight landed in Cloncurry and the original QANTAS hanger is still in use today. The Royal Flying Doctor Service was founded in Cloncurry in 1928 by Rev. John Flynn.
What’s it like?
Cloncurry enjoys two distinct weather seasons – the wet and the dry. The wet season lasts from December until March, with daytime temperatures rising to over 40°C. The dry season extends from April to December when the weather is usually warm and the nights are cool to cold.
The population of Cloncurry is approximately 3,900. Residents enjoy the quality local sporting, entertainment, education, business and shopping facilities.
