Work life balance

think me time

At the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland, work-life balance is a commitment we make to our employees; we recognise that the right combination of work and home-life is the key to a happy and effective workforce.

Your Entitlements

As a Department of Transport and Main Roads employee you have access to the following primary work/life balance entitlements:

  • Flexible work hours - If you are employed under the Queensland Public Service Award you will be able to accrue up to 40 hours extra each work cycle, beyond the required 36.25 hours per week.
  • Job sharing - This arrangement is suited to two people sharing one full-time job, each working part-time on a regular, ongoing basis. It can be adapted to a variety of circumstances.
  • Telecommuting - You can work from home using Transport and Main Roads' equipment for a maximum of two days per week, or outside the central workplace for a maximum of three.
  • Leave - Paid maternity leave of up to 14 weeks (or extended to 28 weeks at half-pay) is also available with Transport and Main Roads Queensland.  An expectant mother may also apply for an unbroken period of up to 104 weeks unpaid leave, whilst spouses can also take one week paid parental leave, two weeks at half pay, or up to 96 weeks unpaid parental leave.

Am I eligible to benefit?

Our flexible work practices benefit all permanent, part-time and temporary public service employees, especially those with family and dependent responsibilities, mature age workers and people with disabilities.
